Wallpaper Photos for November 2011
When preparing the calendars each month, I'm always on the lookout for a photograph to take that will best represent the month for my home state of Florida. When I saw this scene a couple of weeks ago, I knew my quest for November was over.

In the side lawn of this old home, I found everything that makes Autumn in Florida remarkable. The bright splash of salmon orange is from the fruit of a Golden Rain tree which takes the form of papery seed pods in the shape of small Japanese lanterns. The tree blooms bright yellow in August and September, then the blooms seem to change color as the seed pods develop very bright at first, then fading to more subtle hues. In the background, against the bright blue sky, you can see Australian Pines which are often seen near salt water but are gradually disappearing since they were ruled 'invasive' and planting them became illegal. In the front of the photo, we have banana trees, many varieties of which are cultivated here. Behind, just to the right of the color, is a large loquat tree which produces delicious fruit in the very early spring.
